The department began inviting candidates in May 2023. They received invitations to take part in category-based selection rounds. They can join if they meet the requirements for one of the six new Express Entry draw categories:
- Healthcare occupations
- Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades occupations, carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Transport occupations
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations
- Strong French proficiency
Candidates with these qualities must apply. They must fall under one of the three programs overseen by Express Entry. Nominees in the PNP get an extra 600 CRS points in Express Entry. This ensures that in a future draw, they will receive an ITA. An Express Entry candidate has 60 days to send their final residence application to the IRCC. They must do this after getting an ITA.
